Ideas of human permanence vs. impermanence realized through imagery of monuments and abandoned architectures intersect with landscape within my paintings to explore real and present issues in our American culture. Environmental crisis, hybridization of natural and artificial forms, waste management, surveillance and finding shelter in unstable conditions are all a part of my work’s conceptual and political concerns.

Notions of remains and revision also find their way into my physical paint handling. Investigating a painting as a physical object, sculpted with paint as well as exploiting the ability to create an illusion or a ‘picture’ has revealed to me that abstraction and representation are truly intertwined.
